Aciéries Champagnole

As industries in the northern Paris metropolitan area continue to be increasingly abandoned, it is crucial to develop a comprehensive strategy for repurposing this industrial heritage. Much of this heritage is of considerable architectural importance, and thoughtful reuse can preserve its historical value while contributing to urban revitalization.

The studio focuses on the renovation of the former warehouse of the Johnson Steel Factory in La Courneuve, near Paris. The project envisions the conversion of the industrial hall into a residential building, while preserving the original structural elements and efficiently utilizing the existing materials through recycling and reuse. The design solution integrates seamlessly with the existing fabric of the building, creating a harmonious and cohesive aesthetic that complements the industrial heritage of the site.

The project offers a unique architectural solution, in which the three existing floors with ceiling heights of approximately 4 meters will be replaced by five floors with heights of 2.40 meters each, all while preserving the existing historic facade. The resulting new building will provide a total of 48 apartments ranging from 1 to 6 rooms, including 18 duplex apartments.
